What Good People Have Done

culture and society, storytelling, thinky face

A little over two months ago, in a post called Write About Her, I recounted my experience witnessing undercover investigators in action in a rural brothel in SE Asia. I wrote about Hana, a 20 year old who, along with a few others, had been hard-trafficked over the border, passports stolen, and forced to have sex with strangers.

Got this email earlier today.

Additionally, 51 Semiproper readers have committed to supporting this same investigative team monthly, giving them another $20k+ a year to do battle in the fight to end sex trafficking, on top of one-time donations that will go to purchasing equipment for the team.

“Good people need to go where bad people go to make a difference.”

Thanks for being the good people.

Do you know what happened to the girls?

    • Reply Roo September 30, 2014 at 6:49 pm

No details yet. There’s certainly some Stockholm Syndrome that comes along with trafficked girls, but I don’t have details on this particular case.

What a wonderful post to read! Way to go Roo. It’s kind of awesome that you can be hilarious and keep me endlessly entertained and still get serious when you feel it’s called for. I like that in a person. Not that I really know you, but you really seem like an amazing woman. Inspirational, dear girl!
