A Note Regarding Comments and Other Stuff

reading material

Each week (okay, not every week, but I’m tryyyyiiiiing) I compile a small collection of stuff I wrote, read, watched, and maybe fell asleep on (JK, that’s just my desk and my couch). Oh, before I start… I’ve been reading through older posts and my favorite part about blogging is the community. I don’t mean other bloggers and conferences, although all of that is reaaally cool, too, but I mean the community HERE. Over the past few days I’ve been watching you guys talk to each other and I just sort of sit here and marvel at that. I don’t know why. I’m probably starting to sound dumb. ANYWAY, keeping up with comments is kind of difficult for me, simply because of the volume of *stuff* I write on a daily basis. In a perfect world, I’d respond to every comment and also I’d be able to download food off the internet.

All of that said, if you suddenly get email notifications and you see that I’m responding to your comment from over a year ago, you can feel free to ignore me. I’m just going to go through and respond. ALL of your comments are worth a response, and I regret that I can’t acknowledge each one of them, but I do read all of them and appreciate you for leaving them.

Omgggggg why am I still talking right now? No idea. Moving on.

Reading Material

– Over at AdFreak, the lingerie brand Aerie has decided to eschew Photoshop altogether on their ads. The comment section is a little fiery.

– Basketball fan? Warren Buffett will give you $1 billion, maybe.

– They’re letting me try my hand at parent-themed GIFs¬†over at BabyCenter. We’ll see how it goes. BC readers might not love GIFs with an undying love like NF readers, but I’m hopeful. GIFs 4 LyFe.

– My embarrassing “sorry I’m so absent, here’s what’s next” post at Scratch or Sniff.

– ETA: This article over at Babycenter: “A snow day lament

– I’m just O__O at this article about a naked yoga studio in NYC. Like, don’t get me wrong. Yoga gets sweaty, and there are times where I long to peel off a layer, however… 1) Yoga without a sports bra sounds a little ouchy and 2) I reeeeeeeally don’t want to see anyone naked in a standing split pose and 3) If I went, I would just be staring at everyone because I’m an observer by nature. Like “cute yoga top!” but instead it would be “Oh.. I.. uh.. oh. Cool tattoo.”

– A blogger friend lost his mother unexpectedly. A month later, Whit’s son wrote a letter of sympathy for his teacher when he experienced a loss in his family, and it is really lovely.

– I’m a little bit cheating because I’m linking to myself again, but I was just going through the comments on “When the Mean Girl is You“, and if you missed it, I totally suggest going back and reading. Not because it’s stellar writing or anything, but it’s a lovely video and the comments are fantastic, too.————————————————————-

When I’m not NFing, you can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and sometimes on my kitchen counter eating pizza out of the box like an animal. PS. Speaking of pizza, Kristen Howerton and I are hosting a “Hey did you forget about your resolutions?” DietBet. Click here for details. :) See you tomorrow for TIHIF!

Loved the images from the Aerie advertisement! While I agree the images shown did not display a ride range of sizes,, it’s definitely a step in the right direction. (Plus, I’m assuming there’s more models on their website). I wish that people would take the time to appreciate progress instead of immediately pointing on what is still “wrong”. I’m hoping more brands start to do this, especially Victoria Secret. The comfort level of their lounge pants is voodoo at its best, but I always have mixed feelings buying from them because of the way they advertise.

And our GIFs, as always, are awesome haha

Right, I mean, it’s definitely not perfect, but I’m appreciating them wayyyy more than VS (who I’m just like :| at anyway).

      • Reply Kaelyn January 25, 2014 at 11:47 am

Something else I think is really cool about the Aerie ad versus VS is (it you look close enough) at Amber (the D cup model) in some of the “perkier” styles, you can see the lighter colored “stretch marks” (I’m not sure if that’s actually what you would call them) that you get when you have a larger chest. That to me is revolutionary, because for as long as I have been wearing bras and shopping for bras I have HATED my chest because I thought that NO ONE else had those. I think it’s fantastic, and I applaud you, Roo, for writing about it.

I’ve connected with a few people on IG through your Dietbets last fall. Although they aren’t like close “bf-y” friendships, it’s fun to have a few more people to interact with on social media who I have something in common with. All because of YOU! :)

    • Reply Roo January 23, 2014 at 5:06 pm

Wow, really!? That makes me feel so good!

  • Reply Courtney January 23, 2014 at 12:26 pm

Never fear, Roo, the Babycenter community has a deep, deep love of GIFs and memes as you can see on a quick scroll through the Bargain Hunters group there. (Note: if you check it out, for the love of God, do not ask where the bargains are)

    • Reply Roo January 26, 2014 at 9:56 am

Hahahahahaha I promise not to. Sounds like the kiss of death.

  • Reply Juliana January 23, 2014 at 12:48 pm

The GIFs at babycenter made me LOL! My 7 year old asks me why I get to do things he can’t and my response is always, “Because I’m the adult.”

    • Reply Roo January 23, 2014 at 5:07 pm

You have to do it with some serious hand gestures too, Juliana!!

  • Reply Ashley January 23, 2014 at 1:14 pm

You’re a good person, Roo. It feels like you genuinely care about people, which is refreshing. I wish there were a whole lot more people out there like you. All I’m gonna say, no response needed. Have a super day :)

The internet is a wonderful place.

Hahaha oh man that website. Great find, Erin.

  • Reply Alicia January 23, 2014 at 1:40 pm

umm naked yoga?! No thanks. Certain poses would just be waaaayyyy too uncomfortable to do nude, or be around somebody doing them nude. Plus, sometimes with things like arm balancing poses it’s easier to do with clothes, if I wear shorts my sweaty arms just slip off my sweaty legs!

    • Reply Roo January 26, 2014 at 10:00 am

I actually like wearing shorts, Alicia, but I agree with all of those other reasons! O___O

I loved the article you wrote for Aerie…I found the comments regarding such a positive idea for girls to be ridiculous! I mean I would rather my daughter see that than victoria’s secret or the PINK girls. Aaaaannnd not that my kid is even old enough for that, she isn’t but I still think the positive body image that Aerie is putting out there is better. Also last year I almost had a perfect bracket so I am totally going to attempt to win a billion dollars…then it will be fajitas and diet cokes for everyone for freeeeeeee!

    • Reply Roo January 24, 2014 at 10:44 am

If you win the $1b I want a lifetime supply of fajitas. :)

  • Reply MrsDLA January 23, 2014 at 10:46 pm

That naked yoga article made me reeeaaaally uncomfortable. I’m not there yet.

    • Reply Roo January 24, 2014 at 10:43 am

      I don’t think I’d be there EVER… >.<

  • Reply Liz January 24, 2014 at 4:07 pm

Disqus hates me over at AdFreak so I’ll leave my comment here:

Love the ad campaign, except for one teeny-tiny thing. They’re targeting girls as young as 15? It feels icky to call them “sexy”. I would’ve preferred a tagline of “The real you is beautiful.” Or something else besides “sexy.” Okay, now pass me my Metamucil. :)

    • Reply Roo January 26, 2014 at 9:58 am

I totally feel you on that. I didn’t think about it until someone else brought it up, and then I was like yeeeeaaaah they could have used another word, for sure.

On the naked yoga studio topic, there’s this, written by an Austin writer. I couldn’t do it, but yay for those who can? http://www.salon.com/2012/01/06/my_naked_yoga_class/
