New Internetty Things

miscellany, stylin'

I’ve always seemed to be a step behind when it comes to hopping on the newest whatever whatever on the internet.  I joined Facebook late, I started blogging later than most bloggers, I joined Twitter after President Obama did, and YOU guys are the ones that kept telling me to join Pinterest and Instagram.  Oops.  Yeah, joined late.

I vowed that I’d be the first to hop on board the next big thing, so when Vine came around, I was like YEAAAAH look at me, guys, I’m on Vine!  I’m creating eight second videos, holla at your girl!  Now Instagram has video (and now so do I), so Vine is all but defunct.  Either way, I’m getting better at this.  I’m becoming an early adopter.

When I saw that a few bloggers I get down with are on Luvocracy, I was like, “Explain to me in simple human terms what this is so I may relish in it also.”

It’s Pinterest meets Amazon.

It’s Pinterest meet Nordstrom.

It’s Pinterest minus all of the thinspiration pins next to the Oreo lasagna pins.

Luvocracy - a collection of cool things to buy

You curate your own collections of things you love, and then you can buy them all right on the site.  Once you place an order, Luvocracy acts as a shopping concierge, gets you the best prices, and has everything shipped to your house.  Everything has a 3o day back guarantee, so it’s risk-free.  I have collections for stuff for me, my kids, stocking stuffer ideas, and even a Tweens + Teens board so I can compile gift ideas for the teenage girls that help out with my kids at church or home.

Luvocracy - a fun new way to shop things you love

You can add anything to your Luvocracy collections that you can buy online – from any site.  If you purchase something right from one of my collections, you’re helping to support NEON FRESH with a small percentage of sales.  And let’s turn that around, if you start your own collection, and I (or anyone) buys from you, you make 2% on every purchase from your collection.

Numbers can be confusing (for me, mostly), so lemme break it down like this:

You sign up and you make some collections.  Every time someone purchases from your collection, you make 2%.  Every time you tell a friend about Luvocracy and they sign up through you, you make 2% every time they purchase something from ANYONE’S collection.  What if someone adds something from your collection to their collection?  Well, anytime it sells, you still get a cut.  Neeeeaaat.  :)  More details here, if I sound stupid.

I know a lot of you have signed up through Zulily or Joss + Main or One Kings Lane (I’ve used all 3), but instead of only getting a kickback the first time your friends purchase, you get a kickback every time they purchase.  And with Luvocracy, you can choose store credit or actual $$$.

Here’s another thing I really love about Luvocracy: it opens people up to way more “mom + pop” shops on the Internet.  You’ve got your Nordstroms and your Gaps and your West Elms, but there are a ton of independent little shop websites all over that are now getting a lot more exposure.

Luvocracy - a fun new way to shop

It’s also a lot easier for Jack to find me a gift for a birthday or anniversary or other special occasion.  Instead of wildly guessing at what I might want, he can use Luvocracy to find a few things he knows I’ll love and then buy them all on the same site.  One shopping cart, one transaction, and only one entry of a credit card number.  (The site’s secured, so once you use a credit card, it saves that info for you.)

This could save marriages.  Maybe.

Luvocracy + NEON FRESH

Aaaaand a fun perk!  If you sign up with Luvocracy through me, you’ll immediately get a $10 credit to buy whatever you want, and then you’re automatically entered to win $100 to my store on Luvocracy.  So you can sign up, get $10 right away, potentially earn a little cash through your own collections, and then you’re entered to win $100, too.  You just have to be 18+ and a resident of the US.  Official rules are here.  The contest giveaway ends on July 28th, and the winner will be announced the next day.  :)

Note: This isn’t a sponsored post.  No one paid me to write it. &:)

When you sign up, let me know so I can scope out your collections.

Cool.  Cool, cool, cool.

I have never heard of this but it sounds like all my dreams coming true. And I totally left my Pinterest board “stuff I want for Christmas” open on the computer during those winter months and ended up with some cute stuff… This sounds even easier!! Score!

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:09 am

      Hahaha, so smart, Katie!

  • Reply Caryn July 24, 2013 at 10:51 am

P.S. What is this? – &:) (my guess is Conan O’Brien)

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:10 am

Haha I’ve always said that $:) is Conan O’Brien, so maybe the ampersand is a super fancy bandana?

        I say it’s Tupac.

(BTW, I signed up —> snappykat. No collections yet.)

This seems awesome! Too bad I’m Canadian and can’t join in. I guess it’s looking through creepy thinspiration and oreo everything posts for me…

Ohhhh Canadaaaaa. :( I’m hoping they open it up to you soon! In the meantime, you guys have poutine, so you’re winning in that area.

This seems amazing for Christmas. I just “trusted” you, so I guess that is the same as following?

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:14 am

Yup, just different lingo. I’ll find you on there, Liz!

  • Reply Jenna July 24, 2013 at 11:07 am

Nah. I pin aspirations that I probably can’t afford for a good long while (if ever). I pin inspiration — I don’t need to buy that EXACT $156 denim jacket or that EXACT $230 Banana Republic dress it’s paired with, I just like the style. I don’t pin to buy. I don’t pin so other people can make money. No es bueno.

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:13 am

It’s probably less like Pinterest than I explained. I still love Pinterest for inspiration, fun blog posts, cat memes, etc. :)

Why are you trying to take all my hard-earned monies, Roo?? :-( Stop telling me about cool internet things!!! (Just kidding, don’t stop!)

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:29 am

Hahaha, I know.. it can get bad. I figure if I have a concentrated wish list, I can figure out where my priorities. I can either buy this shirt or this headband and this kitschy pencil sharpener, etc.

  • Reply Jacqueline July 24, 2013 at 11:28 am

Ummm another way for me to watch all my money disappear? Yes, please!
Ahhh forget Make It Yourself Pinterest. I’m all in for Buying Everything You See Luvocracy :)

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:32 am

Hahaha, when it comes to DIY, sometimes the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

AKA, $$ spent on supplies and glue gun burns everywhere.

I’m signed up! This is fantastic Roo :D

Also, I don’t know if it matters, but when I clicked your shortcut to sign up under you, it just took me to the FAQ page. I had to scroll back up to the top of the post and click on your first luvocracy link for it to work.

    Thanks for sharing :D

    • Reply Roo July 26, 2013 at 9:00 pm

Thanks, Laura! I went back and fixed it.

  • Reply Shannan July 24, 2013 at 11:42 am

Looks cool. Figured it’s worth a try – and even if I don’t like it you get 2% for sign-ups from your Neon Fresh link so…WIN!

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 11:45 am

Oooh, so like anyone else who signs up, I get a kickback if you purchase from my collections, or if you sign up through me and purchase from someone else’s collections.

Either way, you get a free $10 to try it out and see if you like it. :) Thanks, Shannan!

  • Reply Laura July 24, 2013 at 12:01 pm

Holy K-Middleton’s placenta this is the answer to all my woes. Or at least my sads over Amazon’s maybe-maybe not sketchty ethics. Thank you, Roo. Never do you cease to change lives. Next free nap time, I’m going to follow you and start collecting.

  • Reply Danielle July 24, 2013 at 12:07 pm

OMGoodness….I LOVE IT!!!! My Mom always asks me what I want as a gift for various occassions, even other friends and family, now I can send them here for insperations. Plus, if my friends and family create one I will know what they want! Love supporting smaller businesses too!!! This is so cool! PLUS, it shops for the best price?! That’s just crazy! Almost like my own little personal shopper.

  • Reply Nicole July 24, 2013 at 1:25 pm

I signed up! Buuuuuutt….sometimes I feel like I dont know what I am doing! If you see something you like, do you add it to your shopping bag? Or will that mean you have to purchase it? Or do you just “luv it” and it goes to your cache of stuff you are salivating over?? Help a sista out here… Mucho thanks.

    • Reply Roo July 24, 2013 at 1:34 pm

If you want to buy it right away, put it in your shopping bag. :) If you want to save it, just “luv it” and it goes into your list of happy things that you like. :)

      • Reply Nicole July 24, 2013 at 4:24 pm

ok. so this could be bad. bad news. I already bought some awesome gradiant measuring spoons. and used my $10 credit!!

  • Reply amy @ drivethirtythree July 24, 2013 at 1:37 pm

now i just need to spend the rest of the day adding things.

This sounds amazing! I am joining right now, thanks for sharing!!

  • Reply Lesley July 24, 2013 at 2:10 pm

This looks pretty cool. When I am buying for myself I try to look to see if the store I am buying from is on ebates.com or fatwallet.com. Sometimes they have some really good cash back rewards rate (better than 2%) and they run specials during the year for double cash back. If you need a referral code for with of those let me know. But this looks great for setting up wish lists that other people can buy from. thanks for being an early adopter…or shall we say fresh make that Neon Fresh :)

    i signed up – my handle – zlie17

i do think this may work for birthday/christmas — my husband had trouble figuring out what to get me for my birthday, and naturally waited til the day before, and admittedly I was disappointed when i opened it. the shirt was fine, but i felt like he could’ve PUT a LOT more thought into it.

and maybe now i’ll make him do something like this that way we can get each other little things that we actually like!

  • Reply Amber July 24, 2013 at 3:57 pm

This is AWESOME!!! This is basically what I wish Pinterest was able to do. As much as I LOVE food and crafts and recipes and everything it has to offer, what I really need is a way to keep track of what I want/need to buy. I am loving this idea!
